Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which service my watch needs?
The choice depends on your watch's age, last service date, and current condition. Movement Cleaning is appropriate for relatively young watches showing minor signs of dried lubricant. Full Watchmaker Service is recommended when your watch hasn't been serviced in several years or shows timing issues. Quiet Restoration is for watches needing substantial mechanical or cosmetic work. If you're uncertain, please reach out and we can discuss your watch's needs together.
What happens during the assessment process?
Once your watch arrives, we conduct a careful examination — testing timekeeping performance, checking power reserve, examining the movement through the case-back when possible, and assessing overall condition. For more complex cases, we may need to open the case to fully understand what's required. You'll receive a detailed explanation of findings and a transparent proposal before any work begins. You remain in control of all decisions.
How long will my watch be away?
Movement Cleaning typically takes 3–5 business days. Full Watchmaker Service requires 2–4 weeks. Quiet Restoration projects span 6–14 weeks, sometimes longer depending on the work needed and parts availability. These timelines reflect careful, unhurried work. If you need your watch sooner for a particular occasion, please let us know when you first reach out and we'll do our best to accommodate.
Will you keep me informed during the service?
Yes. For Full Watchmaker Service, you'll receive updates when the work begins and when it's complete. For Quiet Restoration projects, communication is more frequent — you'll hear from us at key decision points and when discoveries are made that affect the original plan. We believe in transparency and want you to feel connected to the process throughout.
What if parts need to be replaced?
When worn parts are discovered, we source specification-matched replacements from reputable suppliers. For Full Watchmaker Service, common replacement parts (balance staff, mainspring, crown stem) are included in the quoted price. Unusual or expensive parts would be discussed with you first. For Quiet Restoration, all part decisions are made in consultation with you, and original components are always preserved and returned.
How should I send my watch to you?
Once we've discussed your watch and you're ready to proceed, we'll provide detailed packing instructions. Ship with a tracked, insured service. For watches of significant value, we recommend hand delivery if you're able to visit our workshop in Yilan. We're also happy to arrange secure courier pickup if that's more convenient. Your watch's safety during transit is important.
What about privacy and discretion?
Your privacy is respected. We maintain confidential records, never share client information, and treat each watch with appropriate discretion. If you prefer that documentation or communication be handled in a particular way, please let us know. Some clients prefer minimal written records, others appreciate detailed documentation — we adapt to your preference.
